Videos of the week:

1. How Can We Win

If the looting has been an issue for you, this speaks directly and simply how the Black community has been kept down below other communities. Even when they are getting ahead, they were destroyed every time. She breaks it down into a game of Monopoly. You must listen, think and then have a reaction. The speaker is Kimberly Jones.

2. Must watch: Woman gives powerful speech to looters on streets of NYC

Another side to the looting that occurred in NYC this past week. The speaker is a former Obama aide. Her name is Desiree Barnes.

3. Breonna’s Law

4. CNN’s emotional tribute to Orlando shooting victims

June 12, 2020 is the fourth anniversary of the Orlando Nightclub shooting at Pulse. “On June 12, 2016, a 29-year-old security guard, killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in a mass shooting inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, United States. Orlando Police Department officers shot and killed him after a three-hour standoff.” Wikipedia

5. Let Us Review the President’s Relationship with “The Blacks”

News Articles of the week:

1. A Daughter Is Beheaded, and Iran Asks if Women Have a Right to Safety: NY Times

There is so much wrong here. Religious ideology, misogynistic viewpoints, oppressive toxic masculinity and slow to change laws stalled by numerous government agencies.

2. Chicago Mayor Calls Out Officers Who Turn Off Body Cams, Says ‘We Will Strip You of Your Police Powers’: Newsweek

Kudos to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot! “All Chicago Police Officers are required to wear their unit assignment designator, nameplate and prescribed star so that they are clearly visible. An internal investigation has been opened into the officer who was photographed without his unit assignment designator and nameplate and with his star number covered. CPD holds its officers to the highest professional standards and violations of the Department’s policy will be addressed; I’ve said this before and I’ll say it every day: We will not tolerate people who cross the line. We will not tolerate excessive force. We will not tolerate profanity and homophobic comments that demean the badge, demean the honor of being a Chicago police officer and demean the value of who we are as Chicagoans.”

3. Native burial sites blown up for US border wall: BBC News

This is a gross disrespect to indigineous people! We need to repeal the 2005 REAL ID Act! “The Trump administration has been able to build sections of the US-Mexico border wall on public land due to the 2005 REAL ID Act, which gives the federal government the right to waive laws that conflict with US national security policy. In their bid to build the wall, the White House has waived dozens of laws – including ones that protected Native American graves, endangered species, and the environment.”

4. Los Angeles to defund police department by $150m and instead invest in minority communities : Independent

I am hoping this is the beginning of all police departments doing this nationally. I am sure some will hold out (yes, I’m speaking to you conservative states), but this is a step in the right direction. Defunding police does not mean “No Police”. “If we are going to finally end the sin of racism and all of its illogical, dehumanizing and sometimes deadly consequences, including in our police department, then we have to provide real solutions for real people who need our assistance.”

5. Lesbian high school student banned from graduation because she wore pants : LGBTQNation

You would think we would have progressed in this area of letting LGBTQ dress they way they feel comfortable as long as it isn’t too overtly sexual or promoting violence. Very sad day for Dynasia Clark. “Her clothes would have been covered by a robe, and she said that people at the school already know about her sexual orientation and that she dresses butch.”

6. States require more training time to become a barber than a police officer : CNN

This is incredible! You are carrying a gun. You are pulling over people sometimes in high speed situations. You are entering dangerous situations at times. And yet it takes less hours to be a cop than a barber??? It just doesn’t make sense.

7. The Trump Regime Is Beginning to Topple : The Atlantic

This article gives me some cautious hope! I feel change in the air and hope that the tactics the Orange Idiot is planning on using do not work. (We all know he is working on cheating his way into a second term!) “Sharp’s foundational insight is embedded in an aphorism: “Obedience is at the heart of political power.” A dictator doesn’t maintain power on his own; he relies on individuals and institutions to carry out his orders. A successful democratic revolution prods these enablers to stop obeying. It makes them ashamed of their complicity and fearful of the social and economic costs of continued collaboration.”

8. Transgender Health Protections Reversed By Trump Administration : NPR

Just when you think the Orange Idiot and his administration cannot go any lower, they do. On the fourth anniversary of the Pule nightclub shooting in Orlando and within the month of June, which is Pride month, they go and do this! They are coming for all LGBTQ+ rights one by one. Mark my words, they are working on rolling back everything we have worked so hard to fight for. We will be back in the streets for these rights if he is re-elected! Also, Roger Severino is one scary looking motherfucker!!

9. Dominique Fells, Riah Milton: 2 Black Trans Women Killed This Week : Out Magazine

It is alarming that these trans black women are dying at such a rate of emergency. They are young, vital and should not be dying in such numbers. We must find a way to protect this part of our community. I don’t have the answers but if anyone can shed light on solutions, I’m all ears. #allblacklivesmatter #alltransblacklivesmatter

10. Protesters demand investigation after young Black man is found hanging from tree in Palmdale : LA Times

A full investigation needs to happen quickly. They are deeming this a “suicide” but many are thinking foul play and that lynchings could be starting again. If that is the case, we are sliding further into a horrible nightmare that this country will need to awaken from quickly. We cannot let these kinds of killings occur.

11. “Say His Name” — Rayshard Brooks Deadly Shooting By Atlanta Police Shows America Is Not Learning Fast Enough : Forbes

Another shooting already!! We have to get these new laws passed soon and we have to get the cops who are trigger happy off police forces!

The protests are not going to stop at this rate. Not that they should until justice is achieved. No justice, no peace. #rayshardbrooks #allblacklivesmatter #blacklivesmatter

12. Confessions of a Former Bastard Cop : Essay from Medium by Officer A. Cab

Very powerful essay from the perspective of a reformed cop who looks back on his career and how cops are “built” and thus we can learn to “unbuild” them.

13. Unarmed professionals will now respond to non-criminal police calls in San Francisco to reduce ‘police confrontations’ : Business Insider

Congratulations to Mayor Breed for taking swift action in lieu of recent events with protests started by the death of George Floyd recently. Hopefully SF can be an example for other cities and towns to follow suit.
