Time for another edition of Shuffle! Today I’m going to share with you five songs that shuffled into my life via another music blog and a movie that I watched recently. I’m expanding how songs are “shuffled” per se. I started out by shuffling on my Pandora account. Then I shuffled songs that were number one on a certain date on the Billboard charts. This edition the shuffle is how certain songs come into your consciousness via movies and perusing via the Internet.

First Song:

“C30 C60 C90” by Bow Wow Wow. This group’s hit song that everyone knows is “I Want Candy” but they had a treasure trove of many other catchy songs that are totally tubular! Like this one and a couple others I will be sharing with you. This song is talking about recording all your music on cassette tapes! Remember those good ole’ days? My best friend and I used to make all kinds of mixed tapes for ourselves and friends. It was a hobby everyone indulged in back in the eighties! This song also talks about how a cop stops her and says ‘”Hey you, you can’t tape that
You’re under arrest ’cause it’s illegal” which is a total crock of you-know-what! No one really got in trouble for taping songs off the radio. The big problem came much later when the Internet was used to illegally download songs. Cassette tapes were very innocent in nature and caused very little harm to the music industry. As far as the sound of this song, it has a lot of crazy drumming and “noise”. It’s a very in-your-face type song. Very eighties and very fun. As for the video, well that is very eighties also! You will love it if you were a teenager to twenty something of that time. If you weren’t, you missed out man!

Next song:

“W.O.R.K. (N.O. Nah No! No! My Daddy Don’t)” by Bow Wow Wow. Get ready for more great drumming (which is pretty signature for a Bow Wow Wow song) and lyrics that will be yelled and a slappin’ bass line into the mix and you have this great song. As for the lyrics we are talking about not working. “Work is not the golden rule”! This is also one of those spelling songs that I love. Annabella Lwin, the lead singer, spells out “T-e-c-h nology” and other words such as “A-u-t autonomy”. There is no official video for this song unfortunately.

Next song:

“Chihuahua” by Bow Wow Wow. This has a very dreamy feel to it. I feel a sense of Blondie through it as well as some odd elements of Dead or Alive. The way Anabella sings reminds me of Blondie for sure. This is a toned down feel for the band. To be honest, I have no idea what this song means. I don’t think they are talking about the breed of dog. I feel like it might be a drug reference. The video is a lot of jungle background and a tribal feel to it all. Probably a video that would be great if you were high as a kite!

Next song:

“Far Away” by Junip. This is a really great song that was used in the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which was a terrific movie with a terrific soundtrack. Junip is a band that is fronted by one of my favorite singers Jose Gonzalez (check out his solo work). They are a Swedish folk rock band per Wiki. I really like their sound which is very tight and eclectic. I decided to use the live version of this song for your enjoyment. As for meaning, I feel it is a song about finding yourself after you have lost yourself for the umpteenth time. You need to feel alive again after a feeling of numbness has taken over your life perhaps. You have to keep going on with life and try, there is no giving up.

Next song:

“Lake Michigan” by Rogue Wave. This is a groovy little diddy. Think of it like a slightly breezy day where the breeze is all around you and you just go with the flow of it. I like how it barely references Lake Michigan at all. I sort of dig songs that either don’t say the title (like some Led Zeppelin songs) or barely mention the title as in this example. I can’t really figure out what the song is about. There is some reference to some shady dealings perhaps, a shout out to right wing politicians and trust fund babies. Who knows but like I said, it’s a breezy little summer tune in my mind. This was also from the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
